Dear Families, Friends, and Patrons of St. Sebastian Catholic School,
I am sad to announce that St. Sebastian Catholic School will be closing at the end of the current school year. We truly appreciate the efforts of our families and parishioners, but in the end we were not able to overcome the challenges we faced.
In the letter from Father Ptak to our families on March 13, 2019, he stated:
“It brings me great sadness to inform you that after considerable thought, discussion and prayer, parish leadership has decided to close St. Sebastian Catholic School in June 2019. This decision was made in consultation with the parish’s consultative bodies, pastors from our vicariate, the College of Consultors of the Archdiocese of Detroit and the Office of Catholic Schools.
“Closing a parish school is never easy, but after reviewing enrollment and demographic trends, parishes and schools that are nearby, our parish and school finances and other data to assess the viability of the school, I fully believe that this is the best decision for the continuing health of our parish community.”
The legacy of our school continues on in the futures of the students who attended and have gone on or will go on to become kind, caring, compassionate people, taking care of all of God’s creation. We have truly been blessed with all of those who served our school community through the years, especially the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph. We pray for our families and wish them peace.
